Harpeggios is a student harp ensemble comprised of Rebecca Fay Squire's lever & pedal harp students and has been performing in southern Connecticut for more than thirty five years. Lever and pedal harp students perform together. The ensemble includes school aged and adult students.
Harpeggios has performed numerous times with the Trinity Boys Choir and the Trinity Girls Choir. Harpeggios frequently performs at Hospitals, Hospice, churches, assisted living facilities, music educator conferences, libraries, Scholastic Art Awards ceremonies, private dinner clubs, libraries, the Peabody Museum, Juvenile diabetes Foundation Gala fundraisers, graduation ceremonies, private parties and wedding
Rebecca Fay Squire holds a BS from SUNY Fredonia and MME in music education and CAGS in Music Administration and Supervision, both from the Hartt School, University of Hartford. She studied in Graz, Salzburg and Vienna, Austria at the Hochschule fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst.
Rebecca taught elementary general music for 35 years. After many years teaching in Connecticut and upstate New York, she recently retired from Saugatuck Elementary School in Westport, CT.
On behalf of the Connecticut State Department of Education, she served the BEST Program as a Cooperating Teacher, Mentor, CCI Assessor and Portfolio Scorer. As TEAM replaced BEST, Rebecca served as a TEAM member in Westport, CT. She served as Task Leader for Grades 2-5 Singing Assessments, of the Connecticut Common Arts Assessments, also part of the Connecticut State Department of Education.
Rebecca served as a 3-5 Writing Committee member for the NCAS Standards in music education, as well as a member of the Model Cornerstone Assessment committees for Grades 2 & 5.
Rebecca has served for over 35 years as a harp adjudicator for both CMEA and NYSSMA. She is a frequent conference presenter on a wide range of topics in music education at local, state, national and international music education conferences. She has also provided professional development as part of the Connecticut State Department of Education roll-out of the NCAS Standards in music education for several Connecticut school districts.
As a professional harpist, Rebecca runs a harp studio in her home and is director of “Harpeggios”, a student harp ensemble. Harpeggios is comprised of many of her harp students. Harpeggios performs throughout southern Connecticut at Music Educator conferences, churches, hospitals, Hospice, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, museums, libraries, weddings and private parties. Harpeggios present 6-8 performances annually.
Through a generous grant from The American Harp Society, Rebecca commissioned Tom Duffy, of Yale University to compose a set of three pieces for her student harp ensemble and Trinity Boys Choir Choir, "Three Sparkles for the Season".
